Balik Pulau is the largely rural, agricultural south-west of Penang Island and the administrative seat of the island's Southwest District. Its economy still leans on farming — durians, nutmeg and cloves — and it is distinctly quieter and greener than George Town, famous as the island's durian and asam-laksa destination.
